AutoTURN FAQs
I am currently using an older AutoTURN version. What versions do you still have technical support for?

Transoft Solutions has retired AutoTURN versions: 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 5.0 and 5.1. We are unable to answer any technical support questions regarding these earlier releases. Please contact a Transoft Solutions Account Manager to upgrade your AutoTURN license.

What is the difference between the CD Key, Installation Code, and Authorisation Key?

The CD Key is the 12 character alphanumeric key that came with your software package. This key is required, along with your licence number, to install AutoTURN. The Installation Code is the 8 digit number displayed on startup in the Program Authorisation dialog. The Authorisation Key is the 16 character alphanumeric key used to authorise the software for use beyond the set grace period.

How can I move AutoTURN to another computer?

To move AutoTURN from one standalone computer to another, please use the Move Program procedure which is outlined in AutoTURN user's guide.

How can I go from a standalone to a network installation?

Please contact our Sales department via phone at 604.244.8387 or email sales@transoftsolutions.com and they will assess your requirements and ensure your network needs are met.

When I start AutoTURN in AutoCAD® 2010, 2011 or 2012, all I see is a Welcome screen and
after that I cannot locate the AutoTURN toolbar or menu.

Please start AutoCAD®, type CUI on the command line so that Customise User Interface dialog box is displayed. In the top left section, expand Partial Customisation Files, and check if AutoTURN is on the list and if it is marked as Unresolved.

If you have AutoTURN on the list and it is marked as Unresolved, please right click on it and unload it. Click on OK to close the CUI dialog box and then close AutoCAD®. Use the AutoTURN desktop shortcut to start it in AutoCAD® and confirm that now the AutoTURN toolbar or ribbon is displayed.

Note: If you have a Network licence with a large number of workstations running AutoTURN, and the above mentioned solution is not suitable since it could be time consuming, please note that you can instead try the following workaround:

  1. Upgrade the workstations to AutoTURN 8.0
  2. On a workstation, browse to the AutoTURN 8 folder and copy the following files: AutoTURN.cuix AutoTURN.dll
  3. Paste those files into the AutoTURN 7 folder which should overwrite the existing files
  4. Start AutoTURN 8 in AutoCAD and confirm that this time you can see the AutoTURN product toolbar or ribbon.

Copying of these two files can be scripted, which would save you time if you need to fix the AutoTURN toolbar/ribbon issue on a large number of workstations.

I have installed MicroStation® V8i on a machine where I have already had AutoTURN.
Now when I load AutoTURN, the toolbar comes up blank.

If MicroStation® V8i is installed after installing AutoTURN, the toolbar will come up blank (i.e. no icons). This issue can be remedied by copying the AutoTURN.dll, which can be found in AutoTURN folder, to the C:\Program Files\Bentley\MicroStation\mdlapps\icons folder. This is assuming that your MicroStation® software is installed in the default location. If you have MicroStation® installed elsewhere, please adjust the above path accordingly (i.e. locate the mdlapps folder and if the folder named icons is not already in there, create a new icons folder and paste our dll within that icons folder.)

Please note that for MicroStation® V8i (Select Series 2), you should copy AutoTURN.dll file into: C:\Program Files\Bentley\MicroStation® V8i (SELECTseries)\MicroStation\icons Or if you have 64-bit version of Windows, please copy the AutoTURN.dll to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\MicroStation® V8i (SELECTseries)\MicroStation\icons

Why am I not able to use Select Active Path in MicroStation®?

In MicroStation®, please go to Workspace -> Preferences -> Look and Feel and then set the Default Tool to Selection.

How do I load AutoTURN in MicroStation® using the function keys?

Please use the following instructions:

  1. Open MicroStation®
  2. Go to Workspace -> Function Keys
  3. On the right hand side you will have drop down list. Please select one key from that list, for example F4.
  4. If you are in MicroStation® V8, on the bottom please click on button Edit, and then type the following line in the field New: MDL L "C:\Program Files\Transoft Solutions\AutoTURN X\atv8.ma" . If you are in MicroStation® XM, type the following in the Action field: MDL L "C:\Program Files\Transoft Solutions\AutoTURN X\atXM.ma".. If you are in MicroStation® V8i, type the following in the Action field: MDL L "C:\Program Files\Transoft Solutions\AutoTURN X\at8i.ma"

Please note that you should adjust the file path accordingly to where the .ma files are installed on your machine. (X should be replaced with the version number)

You can also create a function key shortcut for unload by going to Workspace -> Function Keys and selecting for example F4 and CTRL, and using the following line:

Why are there no standard emergency service vehicles included in AutoTURN's vehicle groups?

Emergency service vehicles are region specific, based on the type and/or manufacturer of a vehicle that the local government decides to purchase. AutoTURN’s Create New Vehicle tool gives you the ability to create a custom vehicle based on the specifications you may obtain from the vehicle manufacturer or local fire/ambulance department, etc. For extra convenience, consider purchasing fully built emergency vehicles through our AutoTURN Extend Vehicle Libraries. Click here to learn more.

I need a design vehicle using a specific configuration that I cannot find in AutoTURN.
Where can I find other vehicles to use with my software?

We now have Extended Vehicle Libraries available through our website and our Sales team. You can follow the link below to see the vehicles we have available:

http://www.transoftsolutions.com/vehiclelibrary

If none of the vehicles available meet your requirements, you can create custom vehicles in AutoTURN. In order to create custom vehicles in AutoTURN, you will need to have the vehicles specifications including turning capabilities. These specifications may be obtained from the manufacturer.

To create a custom vehicle, please refer to the Help -> Vehicles: To Create New Vehicles. You will be able to:

Please note the vehicle Type defines the form of the vehicle (Number of Axles, Parts, etc). Therefore, you have to define a Type before you can specify the vehicle dimensions and create the vehicle.

Why can't I get the vehicle to follow a path in reverse?

Since AutoTURN 4.0, reverse simulations have been limited to the suite of SmartPath Tools to provide our user base a simplified means of performing reverse manoeuvers through mouse movements and left-clicks on screen.

Why does my whole simulation delete when I use Delete Last Section?

The SmartPath tool Steer a Path allows you to simulate driving a vehicle in a fluid process. However, you must remember to place a section periodically by left-clicking, otherwise, the whole simulation is one section and will therefore be deleted when you use the tool Delete Last Section. This also applies anytime you have placed or generated a one-section simulation.

How can I become more familiar with AutoTURN?

AutoTURN ships with interactive step-by-step tutorials. To play the various tutorials and see what the software can do, click Tutorials on the AutoTURN menu or toolbar. You can also check our website Training Services page for Self-Paced, Live Online or Classroom Training options.

When I start AutoTURN, I get the following alert: "The Licence Server could not be contacted."

There are two problems that can cause this error:

A. The Transoft Solutions License Server is not started. To check if the License Server is running:

  1. Select Start ->Run, then type “services.msc” and click OK
  2. In the services dialog, please ensure that Transoft Solutions License Server is started.
  3. If it is not, right-click Transoft Solutions License Server in the list, then select Start

B. A firewall is blocking AutoTURN from accessing the License Server. To check if a firewall is blocking communications:

  1. Disable the firewall, and start AutoTURN.
  2. If AutoTURN loads correctly, it is likely the firewall is blocking communications. Please ensure that the appropriate port is not blocked by your firewall (by default, the Transoft Solutions License Server uses TCP port 27099).
When I start AutoTURN, I get the following alert: "Database open failed." and
"There appears to be a problem with the database. Please try again."

A database open failed message indicates that AutoTURN is not able to connect to the local database.

If a specific AutoTURN version is using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express, check the following (applies to both AutoTURN 6.1 and AutoTURN 7.0):

  1. Select Start ->Run, then type “services.msc” and click OK
  2. In the services dialog, please check to see if you have the following service on the list: SQL Server (TRANSOFT)
  3. If you do have that service, ensure that it is started. If it is not started, right click on it and select Start.
  4. If you do not have that service on the list or if you are having problems starting it, please contact our Technical Support.

If a specific AutoTURN version is using Microsoft SQL Compact Edition (CE) then please check the following (applies to AutoTURN 7.0.1, AutoTURN 8.0 and AutoTURN Pro 3D):

  1. Browse to AutoTURN workstation folder. For example, if you have used the default install path, you should then browse to (where X is a version number):
    • On Windows XP: C:\Program Files\Transoft Solutions\AutoTURN X
    • On Windows 7 and Vista: C:\Users\Public\Transoft Solutions\AutoTURN X
  2. Right click on the AutoTURN folder and then select Properties
  3. Click on the Security tab and check if the user has Full Control. If not, change permissions to Full Control.
When I start AutoTURN, I get the following alert:
"An error occurred when synchronising the network database."

A database synchronisation failed error message indicates that the workstation is not able to communicate with the server database. This error will not prevent users from working with the software. However, the sharing function of the software will be disabled.

Please verify that the “SQL Server (TRANSOFTSERVER)” Service is started and running on the server (Start -> Run and type in: services.msc).

If the SQL Server services are running on the server, it is possible that the firewall on the server or on a workstation is blocking communications from the workstation to the SQL Server database. Please add the following exceptions to the firewall:

  1. Port Number: 1433
  2. Applications: sqlservr.exe, sqlbrowser.exe

For Windows Firewall, the procedure is as follows:

  1. Browse to Control Panel -> Windows Firewall
  2. In the Windows Firewall dialog box, click the Exceptions tab
  3. Click Add Port then enter the following:
    • Name: SQL
    • Port Number: 1433
    • Protocol: TCP
  4. Click OK
  5. Click Add Program -> Browse, then add the following:
    • C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared\sqlbrowser.exe
  6. Click OK
  7. Click Add Program -> Browse, and add the following:
    • C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe
  8. Click OK
During the AutoTURN installation I get the error message that product registration failed.
How can I fix that?

Please browse to License Server folder. If you have selected a default installation path, then browse to: C:\Program Files\Transoft Solutions\License Server

Right click on the License Server folder, select Properties and click on the Security tab. Please check if the SYSTEM is on the list and that it has Full Control. If the SYSTEM is not on the list or does not have Full Control, please add it and change permissions accordingly to allow Full Control for the SYSTEM.

After that, reinstall AutoTURN.
